Today, the Malaysian Government decided to stick to teaching Mathematics and Science in English. All I could say is, Malaysians should now say goodbye to Wawasan 2020 or Vision 2020. We could never achieve it.
I seriously feel that most Ministers in our Government today are making us, Malaysians the laughing stock of the world. I'm embarrassed to be a Malaysian because people out there might be thinking that we're unable to do anything right. Every step or projects proposed are done halfway or half-heartedly.
We have incompetent Malaysians. It's the mentality of people that needed to be changed. Professional careers like doctors, and PhD holders had been downgraded. That's why more and more people are leaving Malaysia after pursuing their studies overseas. Opportunities and the dare to change atmosphere are given to them who dare to take up challenges and face the world. We do not want to be "katak di bawah tempurung".
Forget about the foreign diplomats, ambassadors to be sent overseas.. forget everything. It's a double blow when students do not even need to pass their English examination. No need to be part of PBB, NAM, ASEAN when a proper English text could not be delivered. This is just like in History we learned in Form 4, 5 and 6 when the Kaum Muda who wants reformation but the Kaum Tua which are the conservative people are opposing it strongly on changes which could bring development to the country. Plain stupid!
China and India are making their citizens learn English. Few years time, they will have the highest number of English users in the world. If Malaysia could think that they can par with Japan and France by keeping to their own language, then I'm sad to say that they could forget about it. It's the mentality of our people that needed to be change. A simple instruction like "Please flush after using" or "Keep clean" could not be followed. People just let their faeces outside of the toilet bowl and do not even care to flush after using.
Take a look at our Police force and JPJ. Corruption to them is part of everday's life. If you compare the situation with Singapore, bribing a police officer is like an insult to them and you'll be arrested. But in Malaysian, everyone's doing it. To them, it's known as "ada rezeki jangan ditolak". Seriously wtf.
Anyway, after this, do we have enough translators around to convert our BM text to English when we're pursuing our studies overseas or we're in the working world. Don't even imagine of getting a Nobel Prize laureate from Malaysia now. It's really depressing to see Malaysia's future gone just like that... Instead of listening to adults and politicians who're against Mathematics and Science in English, just for once listen to students that's studying the subject. If they do not have any problem, so why are the adults complaining?

everybody has their own reasons on this problem. at least they are seriously implementing on the english language. lack of english language teachers is to be blamed. a lot of teachers are now females while man are less because of their 'big husband' attitude saying becoming a teacher is a low pay job and no face to them. without teachers, who we are man???? i still support the decision made by the education minister. a teacher's job is good too since there are lack of non-bumi teachers nowadays. it is a stable job although low pay. government jobs is stable but it will give me a steady pay before i continue my studies. young people who think of getting high pay without experience can stop dreaming now. that's why there are a lot of unemployed graduates.
back to the point. i support only a few. that is the serious attention of the EL and SJK(C) and SJK(T) should use their own mother tongue to learn maths and science. i come from chinese school and i find it no problem for me. it is better as students can understand well. EL should start at standard 1 and not standard 3.
overall, it is up to the person's ability in coping their studies. this is my most concrete reason and it is a fact. we as malaysians just follow what they say and give comments only if it is important. i only one malaysia to be a peaceful and stable country. there is always good and evil in our human nature. we cannot blame at GOD. even you want to go overseas is not easy. a lot of processes is needed to go through. working at other countries like singapore is not easy because in this global economic crisis, jobs are limited. malaysia has institut kemahiran belia negara to help youths to gain useful skills in future.
no matter how, Malaysia is still the best country and i will not drop my citizenship even though i stayed at another country like singapore or germany. Malaysia is the best!!!! Malaysia BOLEH!! I am proud to be a Malaysian.
Lack of non-bumi teachers? Are you really sure about that phrase? There's lack of non-bumi teachers because they're not given the opportunity. Look at the teaching profession now! They have the goddamned quotas to fill. In fact everything has the stupid quota and you find it hard to get promoted unless you're a bodek-king with the education department. Even all the teachers in our school once school dismissed, they rush t do their 2nd job like selling health products and insurance policy. The fact with Malaysia is, they're never serious about implementing something. It's always about the politician's agenda so that they could fill their pockets with billions washed away. Malaysia is a good place to live in if and only if we have capable leaders running the country and citizens with first class mentality.
1 Malaysia could never be materialized no matter how long you waited unless all political parties to be abolished. Just compare the Bumis in the past and the present situation. Bumis last time are so friendly and mixed around but now if they do that, their peers or parents will tell them not to, making fun of them or discourage them because of political parties aspect.
I am on the same side as you are. It's ridiculous to halt the PPSMI plan (Science and Mathematics in English) half way. They should have put their sight further to observe the outcome. How can they make decision when the first batch students have not step into the working world? At least watch how they do. Canceling this plan will only lower down the grade of Malaysia students as compared to the other countries.

do you know that we don't speak Bm in any countries... AT ALL? when you go to the UNI, you learn all your subjects in english. Do you know most malaysian students had culture shock when they go to other countries and the UNI?

i support English as the no.1 language in the world. In Malaysia, it's BM. Parents are the only one should give the initiative to teach their children in using English.
